DOES ROUTER COME WITH BUILT-IN WI-FI?Broadmax router provides two networks, a 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Deciding which network to use should be based on your unique set-up. The 2.4 GHz can be used for all your wireless devices. It can transmit data over longer distances and through walls and other solid objects. The 2.4 GHz band is more susceptible to interference, so speeds may not be as high. The 5 GHz band is ideal for newer devices such as your laptop, phone, or tablet because it can transmit higher amounts of data.

WEATHER AND OBSTRUCTION ISSUES?Wireless Internet access requires a “line-of-site connection” from your house to one of our towers. This means that any large trees, buildings, or other obstructions may cause interruption of service. Weather will not cause a degradation of service, even in very severe storms. Your connection will remain stable even during rainy months or other stormy weather.

WHY ARE MY SPEEDS SO SLOW?Here are some quick ways to stop most problems that may be slowing down your connection: Ensure you are getting a clean test. Stop any ongoing downloads and shut down any programs that may be using your connection, such as peer-to-peer software. Simplify the picture. If you are using Wi-Fi to connect, try using a wired Ethernet connection to eliminate the possibility of wireless interference. Reboot your modem and router. WHAT IS “PING”, “DOWNLOAD SPEED”, AND “UPLOAD SPEED”?"The ping is the reaction time of your connection–how fast you get a response after you have sent out a request. A fast ping means a more responsive connection, especially in applications where timing is everything (like video games). Ping is measured in milliseconds (ms). The download speed is how fast you can pull data from the server to you. Most connections are designed to download much faster than they upload, since most of the online activity, like loading web pages or streaming videos, consists of downloads. Download speed is measured in megabits per second (Mbps). The upload speed is how fast you send data from you to others. Uploading is necessary for sending big files via email, or in using video-chat to talk to someone else online (since you must send your video feed to them). Upload speed is measured in megabits per second (Mbps).
